Risk & Exposure
Assessments

Find the unsafe practices and blind spots that lead to accidents and claims — before they cost you.

Scope of Work

What's included.

What We Review

  • Current structure of operations and the safety team.
  • Loss runs, accident files, and trends in losses.
  • CSA scores and violation trends.
  • Driver qualification files, maintenance files, and DVIR processes.
  • How telematics and cameras are actually being used to catch unsafe behavior.

Gap Analysis

  • Identify process gaps and duplicate or ineffective processes.
  • Benchmark practices against FMCSA requirements.
  • Pinpoint the exposures that drive accidents, claims, and insurance cost.

The Deliverable

  • A prioritized, plain-language picture of your risk.
  • A clear plan to close the gaps, in order of impact.
  • A baseline you can measure progress against.

Assessment findings are advisory; the Client remains the regulated party responsible for implementation.

Finding the exposure before the claim does

Compliance and risk are not the same thing. A carrier can be fully compliant and still be one bad night away from a claim that ends it, because the things that produce catastrophic loss are frequently not the things regulations measure.

An exposure assessment looks at the operation rather than the file cabinet. Who is driving what, on which routes, under what schedule pressure. Where the hiring standard is looser than the policy says. Which supervisors tolerate what. Where equipment decisions were made on price. What happens on the night shift when the person who enforces the rules is not there.

The output is a prioritized read of where loss is most likely to come from, what it would plausibly cost, and what would reduce it. That ordering matters, because most fleets have more identified problems than capacity to fix them, and fixing the cheap-and-visible ones first is how the expensive one stays open.

This is also the assessment that matters most before a renewal conversation. Underwriters price uncertainty. A carrier that can articulate its own exposures and what it is doing about them is a different risk than one that cannot.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How is this different from a mock DOT audit?

A mock audit answers whether you would pass a records exam. An exposure assessment answers where a serious loss is most likely to originate. They overlap, but a clean audit result tells you very little about crash risk.

What does the assessment actually involve?

Document review, on-site observation, and conversations with drivers and supervisors rather than only with management. The gap between what the policy says and what the yard does is usually where the finding is.

Will this raise our insurance costs by documenting problems?

Identified and addressed problems generally read better to underwriters than unknown ones. The scenario that hurts at renewal is a loss that reveals an exposure nobody had acknowledged.
